Rumors and fakes

Most GTA 6 “leaks” since 2023 are one of four things: AI-generated video, modded GTA V, recycled 2022 footage under new framing, or fabricated screenshots. Here are the claims that spread furthest, and what is actually true.

Trailer 3 was released in June 2026

It was not. Several sites carry detailed breakdowns of a Trailer 3 — runtime, view counts, a villain named “Victor Crane”, locations like “Palmetto suburbs” — none of which exists. Rockstar has announced “An Extended Look” for 27 August 2026. These pages are fabricated, and they are a useful signal: a site that invented a whole trailer will invent anything.

Leaked footage showed a bridge in Vice City

The creator later published a video admitting the hoax, titled “I Tricked the Internet with a Fake GTA 6 Leak”. The bridge was absent from that location and the fonts and camera behaviour were wrong.

Jason Schreier said GTA 6 is 90% finished

He never said this. He publicly corrected outlets that turned his remarks into a fresh delay story. His actual reporting is that the game was not content complete as of early 2026.

GTA 6 will cost $150

Pricing was confirmed on 24 June 2026 at $79.99 standard and $99.99 Ultimate. Speculation about a $100 base game also proved wrong — $100 buys the deluxe tier, not the standard edition.

The GTA 6 source code has leaked and will delay the game

No source code, build or technical artefact has ever surfaced publicly. The April 2026 ShinyHunters breach took corporate financial data through a third-party vendor and contained no game assets. Do not confuse it with the 2022 footage leak.

GTA 6 has more than 700 enterable buildings

This figure comes from a Discord leaker, not Rockstar, and referred specifically to robbable shops. The only hard datapoint is debug code in the 2022 leak referencing at least 157 interiors. For comparison, GTA V had roughly 47 enterable buildings.

Rockstar describes Jason and Lucia as Bonnie and Clyde

The comparison is the press's, not Rockstar's. Official material describes a partnership under pressure after a score goes wrong. Even the romantic relationship is inferred from the trailers rather than stated.

GTA 6 runs on RAGE 9 with Euphoria 2.0

Rockstar has never named an engine version. Both labels were coined by the community. That the engine evolved from Red Dead Redemption 2's iteration is safe to say; the version numbers are not.

GTA 6 made $1.39 billion in pre-orders

That figure is Take-Two's total net bookings for the quarter across its entire portfolio. No pre-order revenue was disclosed. Take-Two's chief executive called pre-orders unprecedented while cautioning that it is unclear how they will translate into sales.

How to spot a fake leak

  • No verifiable provenance — it appears only on TikTok, X or YouTube.
  • The account monetises leak keywords and posts them constantly.
  • The footage is an off-screen phone capture, which hides rendering artefacts.
  • Typos in the interface. The fake map clip said “poin of interest”.
  • Assets traceable to promotional images, GTA V mods or other games' level editors.
